The jazz legend comes to Jamboree to celebrate his 80th birthday!
Charles McPherson is an outstanding performer of bebop, one of the most important styles of music for him because, as he himself says, it embraces all the styles there are in jazz. McPherson’s musical sensibility, elegance, and creativity has inspired generations of performers and captivated audiences.
He worked with Charles Mingus from 1960 to 1972 and has performed with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, Lionel Hampton, and Wynton Marsalis.
According to the New York Times, McPherson is “a singular voice who has never sacrificed his fluency as a creator of melodies.” They added: “(He is) a master thoroughly respected by all generations,” for example, the fantastic performers who will accompany him at the Jamboree.
Those performing include Bruce Bath on piano, Mark Hodgson on bass, and Stephen Keogh on drums.
There are two sessions for this gig, one at 20:00, another at 22:00.
