This year's Challenge Barcelona Triathlon introduces a significant addition: the inclusion of 80 slots for amateur athletes in the Short distance category. Scheduled for Sunday, October 27th, this event stands as one of the triathlon world's premier competitions.
The event offers five distinct categories:
- Short: 1,500 meters swimming, 56 kilometers cycling, and 15 kilometers running.
- Olympic: 1,500 meters swimming, 40 kilometers cycling, and 10 kilometers running.
- Sprint: 750 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling, and 5 kilometers running.
- Junior Challenge: 300 meters swimming, 9 kilometers cycling, and 1.5 kilometers running.
- Aquathlon: 750 meters swimming and 5 kilometers running.
Participation is individual for each distance, except for the Olympic and sprint challenges, which allow for either individual or team entries. To participate, athletes must be federated in triathlon and adhere to the event's cutoff times.
The Challenge Barcelona Triathlon boasts a prize pool of 25,000 euros for the short distance category and serves as a scoring event in the World Challenge Bonus, the PTO ranking and the Challenge Family Championship standings.
