Catalan music takes center stage in this concert that combines new works with historical scores retrieved from our archives, as is the case of Catalanesques by Millet, original pieces for piano, orchestrated by Joan Lamote de Grignon. Seventy-five years ago, Lamote himself premiered a fresh and joyous work on zarzuela themes by the popular José Serrano, such as Noche de Reyes (Epiphany Eve) and Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians).
A special highlight will be the premiere of the version for symphony band of a spectacular symphonic poem about Friar Garí, the hermit of the Mountain of Montserrat, and the poignant Concerto for flute that Salvador Brotons dedicated to his father—who played the flute for more than forty years—inspired by the story of a child overcoming a strange illness.
