The taste for exoticism, through cultural manifestations specific to places that were relatively far away, led to a series of mid-19th century works that were permeated by these melodies or compositional trends.
The Turkish trend had reached Mozart’s Vienna some time before, although it was Romanticism that was to explicitly open its doors to the exploration of the melodic differences contained within this style of music. For example, Bizet’s Carmen, which premièred in 1875, is a paradigmatic example.
Don’t miss a unique performance of themes from this iconic work, as well as the Violin Concerto No. 2 by Henryk Wieniawski, which first premiered in 1862. And the evocation of foreign atmospheres of delightful sensitivity is found again in Ravel’s famous Rhapsodie Espagnole, the suite from The Magic Opal by Isaac Albéniz, and a world première of works by Miquel Oliu.
The star of the show is Korean violinist Bomsori, conducted by Ludovic Morlot.
