Although Vienna was the focal point of the Classical style of music, other cities also served as vibrant musical centers between 1775 and 1810, including London and Paris, and even extending to southern Europe. The Barcelona-born composer Carles Baguer (1768–1808) was just one example.
Serving as the organist at the cathedral of his native city, Baguer composed in a wide variety of genres, including symphonies, concertos, operas, oratorios, chamber music, keyboard works, and religious music. The distinguished Baroque orchestra Vespres d’Arnadí, conducted by Dani Espasa, invites audience members to discover the modern premiere of theoratorio El regreso del hijo pródigo ("The Return of the Prodigal Son"), which Baguer composed in 1807 on commission from the Church of San Felipe Neri.
