The decline of representative politics and social media’s invasion of the public sphere have made it more difficult to build coalitions to oppose social inequality and political repression. A hyper-individualist culture is dominant even among those opposed to contemporary economic and political arrangements. How can writers and activists work together in new ways to advance solidarity, nationally and internationally?
Join the conversation featuring American writer of Libyan origin Hisham Matar, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his memoir The Return; Turkish journalist and essayist Ece Temelkuran, author of How to Lose a Country; Catalan philosopher and essayist Marina Garcés, author of Nova il·lustració radical (New Radical Enlightenment); and the Indian writer and analyst Pankaj Mishra, author of The World After Gaza, who moderates the session.
The debate takes place within the framework of the CCCB’s collaboration with Global Dialogues, an international project led by Georgetown University that seeks to rethink contemporary humanism by creating a space for dialogue among public intellectuals and creators from different continents.
Event will be held in English and Catalan with simultaneous translation from English to Catalan.
