Actor and playwright Michael De Cock and director Carme Portaceli revisit Flaubert’s work and the figure of Emma Rouault, the adulterous wife of a small-town doctor who refuses to give up living life to the fullest, creating a new encounter with this 19th-century classic. This time, they approach the character from a fresh perspective, asking who Madame Bovary might be today and which voids and social conventions could drive her to despair. All of this unfolds through the language of contemporary opera, with a libretto by Michael De Cock and music by Harold Noben, performed by the ESMUC Symphony Orchestra. The musical direction is by Debora Waldman, current principal conductor of the Orchestre Nationale Avignon-Provence. The audience will witness a more isolated Emma Rouault than in any previous adaptation, facing a chorus (Cor La Monnaie, conducted by Jori Klomp) that constantly judges and condemns her. 

Performance will be in French with Catalan subtitles.
