"Bouchra"
Mostra FIRE!! LGBTIQ+ Film Festival
to
Institut Français Carrer Moià 8, 08006 Barcelona
Film still from "Bouchra" directed by Orian Barki & Meriem Bennani (Morocco, Italy, USA, 2025).
Bouchra, a 35-year-old lesbian Moroccan filmmaker based in New York, is paralyzed by the fear of the blank page. A phone call with her mother, a cardiologist based in Casablanca, brings up many memories between them. The affectionate but complex conversation that the two have triggers a constructive change and takes them on a journey through family ties, the mother-daughter relationship and the emotions that love unleashes.
Bouchra is a unique combination of animation, documentary techniques and an ingenious narrative structure: a family drama between New York and Casablanca that transforms personal memory into a moving story about relationships with loved ones, identity, self-discovery and love.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish and Catalan.
A film in the 2026 edition of Mostra FIRE!! Film Festival.
