It's been 10 years and counting since D'Angelo released an album. A void that BLK ODYSSY fills with an expansive R&B as if he were the heir to Black Messiah. With R&B trying to regenerate itself with new codes in cycles that are ending sooner and sooner, BLK ODYSSY reclaims the classic path: his groove is built in a real way. Just look at his time at the NPR offices, where the New Jersey artist left behind him an absolutely therapeutic Tiny Desk Concert. Hints of jazz, soulful spirituality, funk surprises and, at the center of it all, BLK ODYSSY's voice, which is emphatic and moving at the same time.
