Bivac, the CCCB’s festival of thought for young people, is back with a new edition that invites us to think about remains, what is left over, residual and marginal, but continues to persist.
Over and above conventional definitions of remains or waste, the Bivac 2026 festival focuses on other meanings of the word to show its potential: the gesture of remaining or the force of the remainder. We’ll be exploring residue as that which remains, which persists, and often gets left on the side. Who decides what is waste? Does waste put us straight? What might emerge from remains? How can we create something new from the unwanted or rejected? In a present marked by acceleration, often trapped in the immediate, we’ll look back to review what was here before us, and ask what kind of ancestors we want to be, what our waste, our indignities, will be. From prêt-à-porter to prêt-à-rester: a displacement that shows that we are, whether willingly or not, heirs of leftovers.
