The Chamber Music season will form part of L’Auditori’s celebrations to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. Audiences will be able to enjoy an immersive day consisting of nine concerts and a total of 14 hours of the composer’s finest chamber music. The concerts will be given by acclaimed groups and performers with ties to Catalunya, who will play Beethoven’s piano trios and the complete violin and piano sonatas and cello and piano sonatas.
Trio Ludwig, formed by brothers Abel and Arnau Tomàs and pianist Hyo-Sun Lim, Trio Arriaga with Felipe Rodríguez, David Apellániz and Daniel Ligorio, and the young Trio Fortuny, with Joel Bardolet, Pau Codina and Marc Heredia, invite us to appreciate Beethoven’s evolution in composing for piano trio. If, in his three Op. 1 trios he had already demonstrated that he had made the genre his own, moving away from the Haydn and Mozart models, his two Op. 70 trios reflect a mature Beethoven capable of conceiving works full of detail. In the Op. 97 trio, Archduke, which is undoubtedly his most refined composition, Beethoven achieves co-existence between the three instruments under equal conditions.
Siblings Vera and Claudio Martínez Mehner, specialists in the chamber music repertoire, and the duo formed of Miguel Colom and Víctor del Valle will perform for us the 10 violin and piano sonatas, in which Beethoven integrates the language of both instruments to perfection, while experimenting with and expanding the form of the genre.
Finally, seasoned musicians Arnau Tomàs and Kennedy Moretti and the young duo Daniel Claret and Àlex Ramírez will offer us an interpretation of the cello and piano sonatas. These five works allow us to explore Beethoven’s different compositional periods, from the two Op. 5 sonatas of 1796, the first examples of this instrumental combination, to the two Op. 102 sonatas of 1815, intimate works in which Beethoven perfectly integrates their various elements.
