BCN Film Fest 2025
to

Fusing art-house projects and film with a focus on quality, the BCN Film Fest aims to appeal to a film-loving and culture-driven public, coinciding with the widely-celebrated Día de Sant Jordi. The festival offers a selection of international films which are widely related to literature and history. In line with this criteria, preferred films for the Official Section are adaptations of literary works, productions based on or related to historical events and film biopics about well-known figures.
The festival features seven sections: Official Selection; Cinema amb Gràcia (dedicated to comedies); Zona Oberta, Art al Cinema (dedicated to great art documentaries); Imprescindibles (dedicated to auteur classics); a section dedicated to Asian noir film by CineAsia; and a brand new category Nous talents with a sample of short student films.
The festival opens with Tracie Laymon's American comedy-drama Bob Trevino Likes It, inspired by the true friendship that Laymon found with a stranger when looking for her own father online. Other films on the docket include Eran Riklis' Reading Lolita in Tehran, the moving autobiographical story of a teacher who secretly gathers seven of her female students to read forbidden Western classics in revolutionary Iran; Tim Mielants' poignant drama Small Things Like These relates the disturbing secrets of the Magdalene laundries in a small Irish town; Éric Besnard's heartwarming period drama Miss Violet; Ido Fluk's music-drama film Köln 75 tells the true story of a young promoter on the Cologne music scene in the 1970s who risked everything to organize the greatest solo performance in music history; and many more!
