Plaça de Catalunya Plaça de Catalunya, 08002 Barcelona

This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Olympics. The 1992 Games are considered a turning point in Barcelona’s global image. The Games not only put Barcelona on the map, but also initiated the urban transformation of the city, the installation of first-rate sports facilities and the contribution to greater participation in sports amongst residents. The silver anniversary offers an opportunity to reinforce the values linked to the Games; solidarity, peace, respect for others, an effort-based culture, the pursuit of excellence and fair play. The anniversary will be celebrated through a series of events throughout the year.
The series begins on July 25th, when the Olympic torch will again be carried through Barcelona from Montjuïc to Plaça de Catalunya. Athletes who participated in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games, representatives of civil society, and sportsmen and women, including basketball player Juan Antonio San Epifanio and the archer and Paralympic medalist Antonio Rebello, will be involved in the carrying and lighting of the torch. The torch will set off from Mansion Albéniz on Montjuïc at 8.30pm and arrives in Plaça de Catalunya at 9.45pm.
