Spanking Projects Pop Up Gallery C/ Fusina 6, 08003 Barcelona

Spanking Projects' new pop-up gallery is situated in the Born, next to the Born Cultural Centre. This new art space is all about "breaking down boundaries and leaping over the hurdles of convention to address the real issues of social injustice that matter today". Street art is a prominent theme at the gallery, and the artists chosen will bring their own unique perspective that is somehow aligned with the gallery’s mission.
On Thursday evening, the gallery will open with an exhibition by Barcelona artist Mantteka (Xavier Puerta). Mantteka is both an artist and a mathematician, and he uses different tools (such as bold aerosol street art and sepia ink paintings) to investigate the abstract structures that underlie reality. His installations add a touch of satire and humour to this exhibition. “For me, art is either subversive and revolutionary or else it’s just decorative. I’m interested in shaking things up, both individually and collectively,” said Mantteka.
Programme:
5-7.30pm: Press and bloggers only.
7.30-10.30pm: Cocktails: Art collectors and art lovers welcome.
