Barcelona: City and Theater
to
El Born Cultural and Memorial Centre Comercial 12 Plaça, 08001 Barcelona
The exhibition Barcelona: City and Theater covers a chronological route that moves in parallel to the history of the city, revealing how the performing arts have promoted the growth and urban transformation of Barcelona. A sequence of maps guides this temporal journey in periods within which a conjunction between theater activity and the city occurs
From La Rambla to Passeig de Gràcia, and from there to Avinguda Paral·lel and the towns of the Barcelona plain, the display shows the history of encounters and missed encounters between theater and the city. The exhibition looks at the urban role of theaters to then at the architecture of venues before finally delving into stage space. City, architecture, stage space and society all weave together in this display, which aims to talk about theater within the city, but also the city within theater.
The exhibition features maps, drawings, paintings, photographs, models, mini-theaters, posters, figurines and costumes. It also includes an audiovisual on disappeared theaters in Barcelona that contrasts historical images with their current state.
