The Ballet de Barcelona is the newly created dance company under the direction of Carlos Renedo and Chase Johnsey, both dancers with a long history in the world of dance, including large companies such as The Trocadero Ballets of Monte Carlo, the English National Ballet, or the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
The Ballet de Barcelona dancers come from all over the world and have a professional background in international companies such as the English National Ballet, the Ballet de Chile, the National Ballet from Portugal, Ballet de Tokyo and Barcelona Ballet by Àngel Corella, among others. All stand out for their technical and artistic qualities with which they cover a wide range of styles ranging from classical dance to the most avant-garde trends present on stage.
The objective of the Ballet de Barcelona project is to establish a dance company in the country, with international renown, created as a result of an initiative of the same dancers together without any institutional help and motivated by the great enthusiasm and desire to dance.
The first act contains pieces of classical repertoire opening with the Blue Bird, followed by "Jewels", both from La Bella Dorment, one step at two from El Corsari and the solo of La Mort del Cigne, this last dance by the same Chase Johnsey.
In the second act we find Together, a group work with original choreography created especially for the Ballet de Barcelona, by the choreographer Antonio Carmena, former dancer of the New York City Ballet, and Marcus Salazar as co-choreographer, from New York to incorporate the Balanchine style, recognized for its great exigency, dynamism and rapidity.
