Julio Bocca took over the reins of this ballet company in 2010 to completely transform it. Under his artistic direction, the Uruguayan company underwent the greatest transformation of its history, opening up the doors to the region and the world and a certain inclusion on the path to excellence.
Now, under the artistic direction of Igor Yebra and following in the wake of the Argentinian director, the Ballet Nacional Sodre is making its début in Peralada. For the occasion, the company is presenting a work inspired by the union of the universal figure of Don Quixote with that of famous Uruguayan Arturo E. Xalambrí, a passionate, eccentric and extraordinary character, responsible for Montevideo housing one of the largest collections of books by Cervantes in Latin America.
For the ballet, Spaniard Blanca Li has created a choreography full of entrances and exits of Xalambrí’s wonderful library, which houses thousands of editions of Don Quixote, and of the story of the most universal knight. A game of comings and goings showing the parallels between the two characters. As each scene plays out, the place transforms into the different settings that accompany the story of each adventure, inspired by the exploits of Don Quixote, told by Cervantes in his famous novel.
With a stunning choreography, this ballet feeds on the music of great composers who based their scores on the literary work. A blend of fiction and fact that recalls the dream climate of the great titles of the classical ballet repertoire.
See it live on July 26!
