Two contemporary takes on traditional roots music come together, two artistic visions share the stage for the first time: Baiuca’s forward-thinking electronic sound, which has reimagined Galician folklore for dance floors and major stages, and the distinctive voice of Júlia Colom, who transforms Mallorca’s oral traditions into delicate, free, and deeply evocative pop.

From the misty mountains of Galicia to the rugged, sea-shaped landscapes of Mallorca, their music draws on collective memory: ancient songs, rhythms passed down through generations, and stories that live on through voice and body—a convergence of tradition, electronics, experimentation, and contemporary approaches.

With his third album, Barullo, Baiuca cements his place as one of the most influential voices in today’s electronic roots scene. Álex Guillán’s work continues to delve into Galician traditions (folk songs, tambourines, and percussion) transforming them into an expansive soundscape that blends club culture, avant-garde electronics, and a powerful collective energy that becomes a true celebration when performed live.

Meanwhile, Júlia Colom of Mallorca is presenting her second album, Paradís, in which she broadens her musical horizons. Drawing on Mallorca’s oral traditions and her own voice as a composer, she creates a delicate and evocative form of pop that spans folk and electronic music. The songs explore identity, landscape, and the idea of home, with a richly textured production and vivid, image-filled lyrics.

This new production by Univers Paral·lel for the Barcelona Grec Festival sets out to create a shared space where tradition and modernity are no longer opposites, but part of the same heartbeat: ancestral percussion and electronic textures coming together to celebrate traditional music as a living, ever-changing genre.
