The St. John Passion is one of the most important and transcendent works of the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Written in the 18th century, this work of sacred music portrays the agony, death and resurrection of Jesus, reflecting his emotions and suffering.
This year, the St. John Passion returns with its most direct and dramatic tone, a score that condenses the Gospel narrative into scenes of near-theatrical intensity, between austere chorales and deeply expressive arias. Peter Whelan, leading the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir, presents a faithful and committed interpretation, with a stellar cast. A rendition that seeks to honor the essence of this moving work at the heart of a Palau that knows and cherishes it.
