The Asian Film Festival Barcelona is back for its tenth edition with a program that includes more than a hundred films from around 25 countries in Asia and the Asia Pacific region, in which historical narrative, gender issues and drama in all its dimensions are explored through the art of cinema.
The festival features films from a wide a geographical extension that ranges from Central Asia, with the participation of narratives from three former Soviet republics, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to which Iran and Afghanistan are added; South Asia is represented by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; Southeast Asia by Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam; East Asia by China, Korea, Japan; and finally, the Pacific by Australia and New Zealand.
The festival's director, Menene Gras Balaguer states “the tenth edition of AFFBCN aims to be as representative as possible for the latest experimental and independent cinema from the Asian continent, and although some cinematographies such as those of India, Iran, China, and South Korea stand out, titles from other Asian countries less recognized and less projected are also screened.”
