The On Photography series sparks a conversation between photographers working in different national and international contexts. It relates different and complementary practices, positions and paradigms, to explore how an artist’s work can help construct the public sphere. Bettina Lockemann, from Berlin, was a professor of the theory and practice of photography for five years at Braunschweig University of Art in Germany and holds a PhD in art history. As well as exhibiting her work, she has written numerous essays on documentary photography. Julia Schulz-Dornburg, from Munich, is a qualified architect and author with an office in Barcelona. She’s won various awards including the City of Barcelona Prize.
