Visual artist Irene de Andrés grew up on the island of Ibiza, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and the masses of visitors who come in search of sun, sand and parties have left a definite impression on her art. Her previous project, Donde nada ocurre (Where Nothing Happens), related to documenting five abandoned nightclubs in Ibiza and investigated the outcome of the island’s tourism history from a different perspective. Now, in a new solo show at Fundació Joan Miró’s Espai 13 that runs until January 7th, she aims to explore the analogies between tourism and colonization.
