Fortunately, musicology and the collaboration of concert halls and auditoriums around the world are bringing the works of female composers the recognition they rightly deserve. However, there is still much work to be done in our efforts to discover, program and commission new female voices in contemporary music. The Ars Nova vocal ensemble from Copenhagen, conducted by Swedish director Sofi Jeannin, presents a program that primarily features works by women. The pieces span from the 12th-century medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen to contemporary composers such as Caroline Shaw, Héloïse Werner and Edie Hill. Also included are works by the 16th-century composer Thomas Tallis and contemporary composer Ken Burton.
