Architecture after the tsunami
Architecture after the tsunami
Presented with the Japan Foundation Madrid, 'Arquitecturas después del tsunami' looks at responses to the 2011 tsunami in Japan, which devastated 500 kilometres of the country's east coast. The project gives us a glimpse into the technological advances in architecture that was triggered by the disaster.
The display is made up of three parts: the first one sees the solutions created directly after the tsunami hit in the form of the emergency shelters where victims found refuge; the second presents the temporary homes built for the families soon after the disaster struck; finally, the third stage looks at complete programmes of restoration. The project primarily focuses on the architects' speedy response to the disaster, as well as their innovative proposals developed to ensure that future disasters will cause minimal destruction.
