This exhibition presents a selection of prints and books from 1988 to 1990 that show the experimentation of Antoni Tàpies in the field of engraving. For the artist, one of the biggest challenges of this medium was to transfer onto paper the variety of textures that he was able to achieve in his paintings. Since the material aspects of the work of art are the central element of his work, Tàpies made the essay with techniques and new elements a constant.
Of all the techniques with which Tàpies experimented, this exhibition focuses on chalcography, that is, the process of biting an image into a metal plate through the action of acid. Unlike much traditional printmaking, most of the works in this exhibition are large-format.
The exhibition includes the screening of the documentary Tàpies (1990), directed by Gregory Rood and produced by BBC - TVE Catalunya, which teaches the creative process of Antoni Tàpies in a variety of formats (painting, engraving and ceramics) and different events of his life and formation.
