The animator and experimental filmmaker Theodore Ushev will be leading a workshop about an encaustic painting technique, sometimes known as hot wax painting.
This workshop dives into the genesis, the idea and the concept of the technique used to animate the film The Physics of Sorrow. The Physics of Sorrow, the first fully animated film that uses an encaustic painting technique, also known as hot wax painting. This technique, which dates back to antiquity, involves using heated beeswax and then adding colored pigments. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface such as wood or canvas.
This workshop will show the participants the pros and the cons of using this technique with the possibilities to create experiments with forms, movements and colors.
