Angel Bat Dawid is an African-American artist who pushes the boundaries of music and expression. A composer, improviser, clarinetist, pianist and educator, her work reflects her versatility and passion.
In 2019, she debuted The Oracle, an album recorded entirely on her cellphone, which was critically acclaimed as a vibrant document of contemporary black life. Since then, she has led projects such as Requiem for Jazz, which premiered at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival, and toured internationally with “Tha Brothahood,” her ensemble recognized for the album LIVE. She also fronts Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty, an all-female group that promotes female talent in music.
Angel collaborates with Damon Locks’ Black Monument Ensemble, hosts a monthly show on NTS Radio, and teaches music at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk. Awarded “Chicagoan of the Year” in 2021, she continues to create works that connect audiences around the world, redefining music as a universal language.
