Anatomy of a Fall, Justine Triet (France, 2023)
Sandra, a German writer, lives with her husband Samuel and their son in the French Alps. When Samuel dies in mysterious circumstances, the investigators are unable to determine whether it was suicide or foul play. Sandra is arrested and tried for murder, and the trial places her tumultuous relationship and ambiguous personality under the spotlight.
The 2023 Cannes Palme d'Or winner dissects a marital relationship through the trial of a woman accused of pushing her husband to his fatal fall. A brilliant puzzle, perfectly tuned and measured, that questions our perception of reality and uses the investigation of a death to analyze a couple.
"I wanted to make a film that took its time and silently unfolded all the facets of a trial in an almost documentary way, very stylized, but also very faithful to reality. The film shows how we live with each other, what we give to them, what we owe to each other as a couple. It's a kind of romantic negotiation that we all experience. For a court to deal with these matters means that the facts are distorted."—Justine Triet
The film will be screened in original version and subtitled in Catalan.
