Started in 2014, by a group of friends who wanted Barcelona audiences to be able to screen some of the best independent films from the US, the Americana Film Festival returns to the city for its seventh edition from March 3rd to the 8th.
Featuring a diverse range of films directed by established prize-winners and break-out newbies, Americana showcases some of the best North American cinematic talent. The festival will screen feature-length films as well as a collection of independent short films.
In this year's edition, Americana's special guest is twice Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Steve James, and Filmoteca de Catalunya will offer a retrospective of his work.
Last year's festival included Blaze directed by Ethan Hawke, and Damsel by David and Nathan Zellner, both highly feted at the Sundance Film Festival, as well as a series of documentaries including RaMell Ross' Hale County This Morning, This Evening, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and the 2018 winner of the Sundance Film Festival's Documentary Special Jury Award for Creative Vision.
Tickets are €7 per screening or €36 for entrance to six sessions. Screenings will take place in Girona, Zumzeig and Phenomena cinemas as well as Filmoteca de Catalunya. See the event's webpage for the detailed program of screenings.
Through shorts and feature films in all genres and parallel activities for adults and children, Americana brings to Barcelona all those American productions that are not screened in commercial cinemas.
