The exhibition 'Famine alert - let's prevent it!' is a photographic show now on at the Palau Robert.
It features images taken in the Horn of Africa and Sahel region of the continent (connecting the Sahara desert in the north and Sudanese savannas in the south), highlighting the famine in these areas, which has caused a humanitarian crisis affecting around 13 million people. The emergency started last year in various countries including Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, and extended at the beginning of 2012 to the Sahel, and nations such as Mauritania, Niger and Chad.
The exhibition is organised by the Comité Català d'Ajut Humanitari d'Emergència to try and alert the public to the causes behind the situation and the massive problems of malnutrition and food resource insecurity.
