The Austrian architect and essayist, Adolf Loos, was one of the founding thinkers and pioneers of modern architecture. He infamously rebelled against the Viennese Secession, turning away from the Art Nouveau scene and emphasising the need for buildings to be functional. Loos continued the dialogue between spaces in public and private life, which are reflected in the exhibition co-produced by the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona and la Caixa. Private Spaces takes work from nine collections; the Hummel Collection, Vienna, the Albertina Museum of Vienna, the Architekturmuseum der Technische Universität of Munich, the Historisches Museum der Stadt of Vienna and a private collection in the United Kingdom. It explores the literary, architectural and philosophical context of early-twentieth-century Vienna and will feature over one hundred objects.
