Wayne Shorter, Kenny Wheeler, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Duke Ellington are some of the names pianist Aaron Parks cites as influences on the compositions of his latest album, By All Means (Blue Note), which he premieres at Festival de Jazz de Barcelona. These are pieces, Parks himself states, that "feel classic yet fresh, timeless yet personal." An album, the artist continues, that deals with connections between musicians, traditions and emotions. And Parks has chosen the Festival de Jazz de Barcelona to debut this beautiful, lyrical and subtle album, leading a very powerful quartet: Dayna Stephens on tenor sax, Ben Street on double bass, and Cornelia Nilsson on drums.
