Indian writer and Booker Prize winner Kiran Desai visits the CCCB to discuss the loneliness and sense of estrangement experienced by those who live between cultures and continents.
In today’s society, millions of people live between two continents or between two cultures, shifting between different versions of themselves. This cultural clash and the loneliness that accompany migratory journeys lie at the heart of The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny, the latest novel by Indian writer Kiran Desai. After two decades of creative silence, Desai has produced a monumental work that moves across geographies and generations, following its protagonists, two young people from India sent to the United States in pursuit of social mobility, who struggle to build an identity and find themselves in a world without a center.
Kiran Desai visits the CCCB to reflect on this sense of estrangement that shapes the everyday lives of so many of us and on the ways in which the forces of globalization, often invisibly, shape our most intimate decisions.
Event will be held in Catalan and English with simultaneous translation to Catalan.
