In this performance, the BMB, under the direction of Rafa Agulló, will play some of the most transcendent and cherished themes from the Italian operatic repertoire. The show begins with the overture from La gazza ladra (The Thieving Magpie), an instrumental piece in which Rossini’s masterful use of irresistible and exhilarating tension—with his characteristic crescendos—makes itself felt.
Soprano Júlia Farrés-Llongueras and baritone Elías Arranz, both invited to sing at this “Morning at the Opera”, will feature prominently in many of the pieces. The pair will start with the aria from Puccini’s Turandot “Tu che di gel sei cinta,” and continue with “Bella siccome un angelo,” from Donizetti’s opera Don Pascuale. The instrumental pieces will include the short ballet piece “Danza delle ore” from Ponchielli’s opera La Gioconda, and arias and duets from La Traviata, Il pagliacci and Rigoletto, among other operas, will also be performed.
