Dave Holland and Lionel Loueke Duo, two of the most influential musicians in contemporary jazz, join forces in the project United, an album that celebrates creativity, cultural roots and the power of music as a force for unity in times of division. This collaboration, released by Edition Records on November 8th of last year, marks the first time these two masters have worked as a duo, offering an exceptional artistic result.
Lionel Loueke, a guitarist renowned for his innovative fusion of West African traditions with modern jazz, has left a deep imprint on the international scene. With over 15 years as Herbie Hancock's guitarist, he has also collaborated with legends such as Wayne Shorter, Sting, Terence Blanchard, Marcus Miller and Esperanza Spalding.
Dave Holland, one of the most influential double bassists and composers in jazz since the late seventies, has been a key figure in the shaping of modern jazz. He has performed with icons such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, Sam Rivers and Jack DeJohnette, leaving an indelible mark on each project.
In United, Loueke and Holland combine the virtuosity of the former with the depth and resonance of the latter, creating a musical dialogue that transcends genres and borders. The album is not only a celebration of their individual mastery, but also a tribute to collaboration and the transformative power of music.
