Clos Mogador
Every year, buying a present for Father's Day becomes one of the most stressful and complicated tasks for the members of any family. Finding just the right gift can be difficult, especially if you have already passed the stage of giving the typical tie or the classic coffee mug reading: "Best father in the world."
It's time you give Dad something that he really likes. Which is why we suggest you opt for a gift that stands out for its elegance: a good bottle of wine. Few people think of this kind of gift, which can also serve to liven up the day's meal; a present for father that the whole family can enjoy.
Once you've arrived at this point, the question arises: Which one should I buy? To get your wine right, you should always look for a bottle with this name: DOQ Priorat.
We're talking about a wine grown in the Priorat region, one of the most beautiful areas of Catalunya, located just 90 minutes from Barcelona. It has mountains and hills filled with vineyards that defy gravity and that have turned this territory into one of the best places to produce wine. Currently, this Catalan region has more than 100 wineries and its wines are found in the most exclusive restaurants around the world.
This was not always the case. Over 30 years ago, in this Catalan territory only four wineries remained and wine production was about to be abandoned. It was in the early 80's when a group of people, the so-called 'Magnificent Five,' became responsible for revolutionizing the whole area, and consequently, all wine production in Catalunya.
So, if in this occasion you really want to make the grade with your choice, these are the two wines you should give on Father's Day for your present to be unforgettable:
Ermita 2013
One of those wines that leaves no one indifferent, Ermita is made by Álvaro Palacios one of the Magnificent Five that revolutionized the wine world in the Priorat. As a young man, he decided to leave a land like La Rioja and move to this modest Catalan region and from there—on only 30 hectares—he makes a wine that is as spectacular as his bench-shaped vineyard.
Arrels
The association of Jaume Balaguer and René Barbier produced a fortified wine (vi ranci), meant to be an after-dinner digestif. It is a very peculiar concoction because after the natural fermentation the wine is put into a process of oxidized aging. In addition, the wine is aged in solera, a traditional Andalusian method rarely used in Catalunya.
There are many more alternatives and any option is good, as long as it is from the DOQ Priorat. Finally, if you do not know what to give, what we recommend is that you go to any bodega de barrio and ask your grocer for advice directly. He/she will surely be able to advise you so you can turn Father's Day in one of the truly special celebrations of the year.
