The exact events leading up to my registration for the Barcelona Marathon are somewhat hazy. My mind is trying to pretend that it never happened but terrifyingly, in approximately three weeks, I will be lining up on the start line.
Fortunately I will not be alone. My good friend Paddy will be jetting out to join me on the 26.2 mile epic run, providing a much needed source of inspiration. Our entourage will be made up of his family, my girlfriend and hopefully, at least some of the readers of Metropolitan.
My training regime is in full flow and blisters are appearing like flowers in spring but it is all in the name of a fantastic cause, Marie Curie Cancer Care.
To give the run more meaning, the charity was chosen by a close mutual friend for whom the Marie Curie nurses were an incredible support and whose work cannot be praised enough. They provide home treatment and care for those with terminal cancer and other illnesses, ensuring that families can have some time to themselves in the knowledge that their loved ones are in the best possible hands.
Though we run for this charity as a result of tragic circumstances, it gives us enormous pride to try and make a difference. We have been deeply touched by the unbelievable generosity we've received so far but we would be incredibly grateful for any more support that you could provide.
