Dear Readers,
Sorry for my hiatus. Put it down to the sudden heat or the World Cup, but the real reason is that there is very little to report.
I had hoped this blog would have a ‘clean’ ending: that is, there would be something to write about (hopefully positive) in neat installments on my adoption progress up until the day my little girl arrived.
But, as in most things in life, that’s not the case. With my adoption having passed court, I am now in the tedious progress of waiting on paperwork. In theory, this should all go smoothly until the day comes for me to apply for her visa, but, as I have done throughout my adoption journey, I am prepared for the worst.
To take my mind off potential worries I am focusing on her arrival; painting her bedroom, doing some research into local schools and finding out what other resources are available to me as a single mother. I also can’t stop buying children’s clothes—how many cute little summer dresses can one little girl need?
Of course, as many people have pointed out, the real work will start the day she arrives. I am in regular contact with her now, and she is absolutely dying to come. I am sure she thinks I live in the world bathed in milk and honey, and I guess in many ways compared to here it is.
I also want to point out a website that another adoptive parent has started out: http://whileabroad.com/adoption/.
It deals with European expats wishing to adopt, and I will be writing a summary of my posts for it in the near future.
You will hear from me again, though, once my little girl gets here. I may even start another blog on that particular journey. I am as scared as hell but know that somehow things will work out. That’s the human way.
In the meantime if you have any questions on the adoption process in Spain, please feel free to forward them to me.
All the best, Meredith.
