Ceremonia de la luz
On November 24th and 25th, the basilica of Santa María del Mar in Barcelona will play host to the unique show La Ceremonia de la Luz.
Created using historical texts, such as songs from the Red Book of Montserrat (which talks about the miracle of the Creation), and nursery songs from countries around the Mediterranean (including Catalunya, Morocco, Greece and Italy), this performance will feature musicians from around the world and different disciplines, led by the voice of Catalan singer Lídia Pujol. In addition, in these shows, for the first time in almost 400 years, music from Santa María itself will be performed—this will be done by Romà Escalas, a musician and researcher who has investigated the 16th-century manuscript that contains the pieces to be played.
Ceremonia de la Luz was created to be performed in churches and similar spaces, aiming to be a meeting-point between religions, people and the past, present and future.
