'Abandoned'
Rocket Division 9, Khmelnytsky, Ukraine, a still from the documentary 'Abandoned'
The documentary ¿Abandonado? (a co-production of Spanish public television, TVE) explores various places across Europe that have been abandoned and raises questions about the use of land in the continent and the apparent need to regenerate these lonely but often beautiful spots.
The film was created following 13 months of travel across Europe in a Camper van, with the director Geppe Monrós and his team visiting 24 different countries in that time. Overall, the project has taken three years of research and post-production. They have also developed an extensive image library, with around 40,000 photos, related to the subject of urban land in 21st-century Europe.
It will be premiered at the Cines Girona on September 18th and will be shown each Wednesday at 7.30pm until October 16th. The first four screenings will be in Castilian, with the final screening on October 16th being in English. Tickets cost €6.50
