The yearly independence march of La Diada proceeded with a forceful energy on Monday, as it came five days after the Catalan parliament’s approval of the October 1st (1-0) independence referendum. Amidst shouts of ¡Votarem! ¡Votarem! (we will vote), it has been dubbed ‘La Diada del Sí’. For many years, the day has been one of protest, but it has always managed to retain a sense of festivity and warmth. This year was no different, and the minute’s silence dedicated to the victims of the 17-A attack highlighted a sense of unity and solidarity on a day of such separatist focus.
