Last night, Catalan Prime Minister Carles Puigdemont insisted that the referendum scheduled for this Sunday would still go ahead, also stating that schools would be open as polling stations. Despite objections from the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Spanish government has issued orders to seal off public locations that could be used for voting purposes. Catalan chief of the interior, Joaquim Forn has expressed his disappointment at seeing the police put in the middle. With pressure mounting as thousands of police and Guardia Civil officers are drafted in from all over the country, the final pro-independence rally will still go ahead tonight at 8pm at Montjuïc’s Magic Fountain. The Catalan government will also held a private press conference today to present their preparations for the referendum.
