In a remote part of Antarctica a paleontologist goes to investigate an important discovery made by a Norwegian scientific team; a frozen extraterrestrial. Once they start to experiment on their discovery it soon becomes clear that they will have to fight to survive.
La Voz Dormida (The Sleeping Voice) - Benito Zambrano's latest film is set in 1940's Madrid, 1940. Ventas is the location of a tough women's prison where freedom fighters and members of the resistance have been put to suffer their fate. Adapted from Dulce Chacon's book of the same name, the focus is on two sisters, one of them in Ventas and their relationships with two guerrilla fighters.
Margin Call - Director J.C. Chandor's father spent his professional life as a mid-level banker which explains his exceptional insight in the workings of a Wall Street company and what happens when it crashes and goes under. Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany, Stanley Tucci and Demi Moore star in this well-received boardroom thriller.
Otra Tierra (Another World) - A remarkably assured debut film from Mike Cahill that wowed audiences at this year's Sundance Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Award and the Sloan Prize. Starring his co-producer Brit Marling it tells the story of her character, Rhoda Williams, a super-bright astrophysicist who whilst driving home one night causes an horrific accident. Killing a whole family and leaving an eminent composer in a coma, she admits that she was distracted by a mysterious blue light and whilst in prison she learns that scientists have discovered it's a replica parallel earth.
Paranormal Activity 3 - The third in the popular poltergeist film series sees the girls from the previous films before they've grown up. Perfect for some pre-Halloween frights.
Tentación en Manhattan (I Don't Know How She Does It) - Sarah Jessica Parker stars as a high-flier in the finance industry who has to deal with the added stress of having to look after her own children. Based on British writer Allison Pearson's book of the same name it attempts to raise interesting questions about the sacrifices women have to make in order to have fulfillment in both the work place and at home but falls flat in providing any solid solutions or conclusions.
