Marmaduke – It’s summer folks and time for schmaltzy feel good family fun. Marmaduke is first off the blocks: a kids’ film about the most adorable Great Dane in the world, based on the original comic strip. Owen Wilson is the voice of Marmaduke. Steve Coogan and William H. Macy also star.
Un Sueño Posible (The Blind Side) – Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her role in this film as the brassy American mum who gives a homeless teen (played by Quinton Aaron) another chance. Based on the true story of a ghetto kid given a place at a school for rich kids because of his skills on the football pitch, The Blind Side went down a storm in the US.
Air Doll – Were this a Hollywood film, it would no doubt go straight to DVD but in the hands of Japan's Hirokazu Kore-eda, the critics were cooing. The story of a blow-up sex doll who comes to life, works in a DVD store and has her new heart broken, this tender Manga comic story is as much about the loneliness of city life as anything else. Villa Amalia – Directed by Benoit Jacquot, this French language film is the story of Ana whose life changes overnight when she sees her man kissing someone else. As a result, she decides to abandon a career in music and head off to an unknown future. Based on the novel by Pascal Quignard, it’s received mixed reviews from critics.
