Captain America - El Primer Vengador (Captain America - The First Avenger) A puny kid (Chris Evans) fails the medical to become a soldier in WWII but luckily meets a slightly crazed doctor, played by Stanley Tucci, who thinks him perfect for his souped up soldier experiments. Some digital mastery later and Chris Evans is now Captain America, locked in a deadly battle with his Nazi-enemy Red Skull.
El Caso Farewell (L'affaire Farewell) - This film tells the real-life story of what Ronald Reagan described as 'one of the most important espionage cases of the 20th century'. An aged KGB colonel called Vladimir Vetrov (code name: Farewell) is divulging secrets through the French to the US, including lists of spies present in the White House, the CIA and the Pentagon. The film centres on the human side of the story, it's no Jason Bourne type affair, instead showing up all the foibles of the main characters, including Pierre Froment, the unassuming French engineer, working in Moscow, who becomes the messenger. This is the real story of one of the most integral events in the Cold War which eventually brought down the Iron Curtain.
El Origen del Planeta de los Simios (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) - A prequel to the previous films is a triumph of special effects brought to you by Academy Award-winning company Weta Digital. Their triumph here is the computer-generated Caesar, the main ape in this story and the star of the show. Cutting itself off from the previous films this focuses on how the decisions made by humans lead to a dangerous shift in power between man and ape. James Franco, Freida Pinto and John Lithgow star.
La oportunidad de mi vida (La chance de ma vie) - Julien Monnier is a brilliant marriage counselor, professionally guiding couples through their troubles. In his personal life, it's a different story. For as long as he can remember he's been a jinx to every women he's ever dated. He's about to give up women for good when he meets, what he thinks could be the one. But will he cause her harm? French comedy-romance directed by Nicolas Cuche.
Las Manos en el Aire (Les mains en l'air) - France's immigration policies are questioned through the eyes of a small group of children facing the deportation of one of their group - an illegal from Chechnya. Director Ramain Goupil is wholly critical of the French government in this film that focuses heavily on the failings of the system and falls too heavy on the director's need for politicking for it to be a success.
