While away the balmy summer evenings on some of Barcelona's loveliest terraces. Here are some of our favourite places to chill out and sip on a cool cocktail when the city gets too hot.
1Marina 19-21, 08005 Barcelona
Kick back and enjoy some contemporary chic at the five-star Hotel Arts, complete with views of the sea and Frank Gehry’s iconic Peix d’Or sculpture. Big chillout sofas and a long list of cocktails add to the laid back mood and, during the summer months, there are live music and DJ sessions.

This boutique hotel near the Las Arenas shopping centre has a rooftop terrace, the B-Bar, on its seventh floor, complete with a sparkling blue infinity pool and views to Pl. Espanya and Montjuïc. Prices are reasonable and you get to enjoy the envious looks from people admiring the city from the terrace of Las Arenas.

Soak up some elegance at this Modernista hotel, which was built by Domènech I Montaner in 1908. The Terraza Blue roof terrace has a pool and bar and is lit up in dramatic shades of blue. With 360º views, which take in a big slice of the city centre and beyond, it’s a stunning location for a balmy summer evening.

A favourite afterwork spot for locals in the know, the Alaire terrace on the eighth floor of this four-star hotel on Passeig de Gràcia offers views which stretch from La Pedrera to the Sagrada Familia. And, there’s plenty going on up on here. Throughout the summer they hold DJ sessions plus bossa nova, jazz and bolero evenings. The bar menu has a good selection of tapas and burgers.
Located on the roof of the five-star Grand Hotel Central on Via Laietana the Sky Bar has become a popular evening haunt for those in search of a little luxury at the end of the day. The infinity pool blends seamlessly into views that take in most of Barcelona. Relax to the tunes of the resident DJ whilst sipping a cocktail chosen from their impressive menu.
6La Rambla 109, 08002 Barcelona
Once the headquarters of the Philippines Tobacco Company, this hotel offers a fabulous rooftop terrace, La Isabela, with breathtaking views over the city. The spacious wooden decked terrace has a pool, bar and chillout area and is a great choice for an evening drink or tapas.
7Passeig de Gràcia 68, 08007 Barcelona
Fashionable and refined, the Dolce Vitae terrace at the Majestic Hotel on Passeig de Gràcia boasts panoramic views down Passeig de Gràcia and eastward toward the Sagrada Familia. The terrace lives up to five-star expectations, with food by Michelin-star chef Nandu Jubany sofas to sink into, and mural works by artist Philip Stanton surrounding the pool.

The stylish Hotel Ohla on Via Laietana is the perfect place to disconnect from the city below. This place is true urban chic, complete with a glass-sided swimming pool, white chillout sofas, and lounge music sessions. The terrace offers views of the cathedral and beyond.

One of the city’s most popular afterwork terraces for its music sessions, the Pulitzer offers acoustic evenings on Wednesdays and international DJs at the weekend. The terrace is exotically natural, with plenty of wood and earth tones and dripping with lush foliage. Drink prices are reasonable and there are plenty of tasty snacks on hand.
10Calabria 115-117, 08015 Barcelona
This lesser-known but lovely terrace has an intimate, cosy feel, with terracotta walls, lush palms and romantic lighting. Come here to enjoy one of their daily chillout music sessions or opt for one of their barbeque nights. Plenty of tasty food a fine selection of gin make this boutique hotel in Sant Antoni a great option.
