Polaroid Bar celebrates everything Eighties, good and bad Lauren Mannion

As most people will have worked out by now, the decade that style forgot is well and truly back in fashion. But where can you go here to feel at home in your shoulder pads, legwarmers and ra-ra skirt?

The answer is Polaroid, open for the past six months, and dedicated to bringing a little touch of Eighties’ joy to Barcelona. This dark corner of the Gòtic seems an unlikely winner from its dark alleyway entrance, but step through the door and find yourself in retro heaven.

Inside it’s surprisingly big, and filled with all kinds of memorabilia. There are film posters and plastic toys, comic-covered tables and classic TV shows projected onto the wall. Cyndi Lauper and Lionel Ritchie mark out the toilet doors, and the bar’s crowning glory is a full-size model of ET on his flying Chopper.

The tetris-block shelves house a great range of drinks, with mojitos voted the best in Barcelona. You can also nibble on free popcorn and sip on a bargain one-euro canyeta. Music is generally in Castilian, but don’t miss the Wednesday night Mix-Tape parties, with music in English and power-ballads galore.

Was there with a group of girlfriends on vacation last May 2010. We met some people at Ovella Negra, but then we migaretd to Polaroids which we never would have known about had it not been for our new friends. So glad wer found this place. I plan on returning this April and introducing my travek buddies to this hidden gem.

Was there on Sunday night. I really liked it, even though people told me that Saturdays is the day to go. I guess that means i will be returning to Barcelona soon.
