The vegetarian Indian restaurant Govinda was opened in 1986 and has been an important reference for Indian vegetarian cuisine in the city ever since. It is one of the pioneers of the Hindu vegetarian restaurants in Barcelona and is located in the 08002 district near the Ramblas and Plaça Catalunya.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with paintings and Hindu art pieces creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere. It offers a wide selection of healthy dishes, vegetarian food, vegan options, and an extensive menu of vegetarian Indian food.
The menu contains more than 40 dishes , which are mainly vegetarian Hindu dishes. Among the dishes is the Thali—a tray with a full meal including dessert and breads and a milkshake lassi—several flavours of yogurt with rose water and lemon. You can also find international dishes, some of them vegan, and there is always a varied buffet of salads.
All dishes are prepared in the kitchen according to Indian tradition (although many dishes contain garlic, onions and mushrooms ), and bread and desserts are always homemade.
Some dishes are mild tasting and other are more spicy.
No alcohol is served - alcohol has no place in an Indian vegetarian cuisine as it alters the delicate flavours that constitute excellence and perhaps mainly because they alter the spirit.
From Monday to Friday, Govinda offers a lunch menu of three courses and dessert for €10.50 and a special weekend menu for €15.30. See them on Facebook for the daily updated menu.
