The American School of Barcelona (ASB) is a private, non-profit, coeducational day school serving students from 3-18 years old in the greater Barcelona metropolitan area. ASB offers a university preparatory curriculum which provides its graduates access to American, Spanish and international universities. The school offers both the Spanish Baccalaureate Diploma and the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). ASB has scored above the IBDP world average every year since it started granting the diploma in 2009.
ASB takes pride in having world class teachers that offer a unique academic experience in the classroom. Teachers support their curriculum with a variety of technological tools, helping prepare students for today´s digital reality. Core academic subjects are taught in English, with a complementary Spanish and Catalan program.
ASB offers numerous opportunities for our students to connect with other students locally and internationally in intellectual, leisure and sport settings. Students can choose to go on exchange programs in New York, participate in Model United Nations events in The Hague, Lisbon, and Milan, train for sports tournaments through the European Sports Conference, and actively help and develop their leadership skills through community service projects, among other programs. In addition, ASB has state-of-the art science labs and a one-to-one laptop program at the secondary level.
The school welcomes students from all backgrounds and nationalities. Current enrollment is 789 students, with more than 45 nationalities represented. Student composition by region is approximately: 20% North American, 35% Spanish, and 45% international.
In the summer of 2014, ASB inaugurated a new, cutting edge Early Childhood Center and Elementary School building, freeing up space and allowing for improvements in the secondary school in the main building, including a new library/media center.
ASB provides bus service throughout Barcelona, as well as to Sant Cugat and Sitges.
