Ana and Nacho define LA LUNA shipping® as a new way in logistics and courier services management. They started as an ecologic bike courier service at local level and now the cooperative offers all kinds of international transport services. LA LUNA shipping® celebrates its 20th anniversary growing globally and working locally. Barcelona is not only a place where they’ve settled one of their offices, it’s also their International transportation HUB. This means that from Barcelona they can prepare and manage any kind of international transportation service, exports/imports of goods and of course, regular shipping, parcel and courier services.
First of all, congratulations for your 20th anniversary. Is it difficult to reach this age for a cooperative in such a competitive industry?
Ana: Thank you! We are proud of all these years of great service to our clients. We never thought this project would last so much and widen its goals to this point. I don’t think that one industry makes lasting long more difficult than another, it’s always pretty hard.
Nacho: Thank you very much!. I agree what Ana says, thought I think that the transportation and courier sector add an extra challenge. We have started from the smallest way of transport (by bike) and now we can move almost anything to anywhere.
Does it take extra working time to reach what you’ve done?
Ana: A lot, as a self-managed cooperative you have to operate on every level: services to clients, relations with suppliers and of course, the internal management.
Nacho: I don’t think there’s extra time, it’s always working time (laughs). As Ana says this requires all the time you have.
You two are based in Asturias, but you also have an office in Barcelona. What’s your relation to the city?
Nacho: On a personal level we visit Barcelona pretty often, it fascinates us. On a professional level, Barcelona is a very cosmopolitan city that is very appealing to foreign individuals and businesses, as one of the main Spanish port and the second largest airport is our main gateway to the world.
LA LUNA shipping® is a small cooperative, how do you get to offer a good international transportation service? What are your infrastructures abroad?
Ana: We manage every step for every shipment and we keep track from the collection up to the final delivery. We set up partnerships with selected transport companies and agents around the world. We do have a complete control of every shipment of our clients and customers, regardless the origin or destination.
What can you offer to the expats living in Barcelona? Do you get close to them?
Nacho: Well, some of us have been expats in other countries, so we do know what they need when living abroad. We offer a wide range of transport services for businesses, but we also take good care of individual customers. We are very good managing parcel deliveries worldwide. And we also offer a convenient and economic boxed removal service. So whenever someone feels like moving to Barcelona, we are ready to help.
It can be summarized that the progress of LA LUNA shipping over the years mainly focuses on collaboration.
Nacho: That’s the spirit of being a cooperative.
Ana: Yes! But our greatest strength is the dedication to the customer. We take care of every service and every customer, we want them to trust us.
Nacho: And we’re diversifying our services. We want to offer the same quality to any customer anywhere.
It seems like the crisis hasn’t affected you.
Ana: We wish we could say that. The current economic situation made our plans change so the worldwide expansion and promotion was a way to pass against the decrease of the local market.
Nacho: And we had to work really hard. Anyway widening our objectives has helped us keep our work and even think of growing.
And still you have reached your 20th anniversary with optimism. Congratulations and thank you for the time spent on this interview. Our readers will be happy to meet the people they can count on offering all kind of transportation services in Barcelona and the world.
Nacho: Thank you for supporting us. We’d be glad to keep growing, and telling you more stories in your fantastic magazine.
Ana: It’s been a pleasure to speak to Barcelona Metropolitan and getting close to the foreign community of Barcelona.
